Greyhounds Are Great Sprinters Thanks To Their Powerful Legs And Agile Body

If you plan to own a greyhound, prepare yourself for at least 20-30 minutes of walk everyday. This is sure to add to your efforts to keep your dog healthy and happy.

Its swift and deft nature coupled with an excellent eyesight and a keen sense of smell makes it a favorite pet among millions around the world. As racing dogs, they can clock 39 miles per hour, and this makes them the fastest running canines in the world.

Their long powerful legs coupled with a flexible spine and slim body make this feat a possibility. They are even known to touch speeds of 43 miles per hour.

They specialize in hunting down animals by virtue of their keen senses of sight and smell. For this reason, they form an important part of the hunting expeditions led by adventurous men into the wild.

They have a stereoscopic vision. This implies they are more likely to see objects that are moving around rather than stationary objects. So, if you maintain a movement when you call your greyhound to yourself, you are more likely to expect a response from it.

They were initially bred and trained in ancient Egypt to help in hunting animals like antelopes, wolves and deer. Britishers took the grey hound to England, from where they found their way into the US and other parts of the world. Today, they find themselves as a family pet in families around the world.

Greyhounds find it difficult to sit. Their musculature coupled with their long legs make the sitting position quite uncomfortable for a grey hound. But some species can be taught how to sit despite it being uncomfortable.
