Ragdoll Breed of Cats

Ragdoll Breed of Cats

Don’t prejudice this cat when you hear this peculiar name of this cat. They are extremely cute and no where look like a ragdoll. It traces back its roots to United States of America. It has those beautiful blue eyes and a unique, silky and soft fur. The woman who developed this breed is Ann Baker. It is a perfect domestic cat because of its docility and placid temperament. This breed got its unique name due to the fact it goes limp and relaxed when picked up. When we trace its history, we can find that a cat named Josephine, a regular, white domestic cat produced a litter which went relaxed and limp when picked up. When the next litter came, it also had the same characteristics. Baker noticed these points and found them interesting. She bought the cat from its owner and set out to create the breed which got the name ragdoll. It took her many years to get all the desired characteristics in this breed like large size, gentle demeanor, and the special tendency to go limp and relaxed when picked up and it’s striking pointed coloration. All ragdolls have descended from Baker’s cats which were produced from the mating of Daddy Warbucks, a sea-point with white feet and Fugianna and Buckwheat who are the daughters of Josephine. Ann took a complete u-turn from the usual and set up her own registry in 1971 as International Ragdoll Cat Association but the association became small the death of its founder, Ann Baker.
